Procrastination probably kills more writing projects than lack of talent, so use this competition deadline to make your summer productive. Deadline is 30 September.

Literature Works offer a first prize of £1,500 PLUS a reading from the Darley Anderson Agency for a first page from an unpublished novel. The Agency will also provide an A4 page of feedback. There is a second prize of £350, and a third of £150.

To submit, writers should send the first 300 words of their novel, together with a 150 word synopsis. They must have completed at least the first three chapters of the book. Entries must be unpublished and aimed at adult readers – any genre. There is a £6 entry fee.

Details can be downloaded from their website: http://www.literatureworks.org.uk

What more relaxing way to spend an English summer afternoon than to work on a synopsis?
