The Good Housekeeping New Novel Competition has been won by Giovanna Iozzi, an Anglo-Italian writer, former tabloid journalist and also recipient of the Pat Kavanagh Prize from Goldsmith’s MA in Creative Writing.
Giovanna is pictured here with the other short-listed entrants. I believe she’s the fourth lady in from the left. What a happy-looking, and gifted, bunch of people.
I suppose it’s a consolation to have been beaten by a writer with such impressive credentials, though sobering to be made aware of the calibre of the other writers out there submitting to competitions. Who knows, Hilary Mantel may also have tried to slip a story to GH, and failed to hit the mark…
The bar is set high, but we wouldn’t want it any other way. Would we?
