Two runners up will each receive 750 Euros and all shortlisted writers will be published in a Desperate Literature anthology and in one of Desperate Literature’s partner journals. They will also be invited to take part in a Desperate Literature Salon in Madrid, London or Edinburgh. A long list of scripts will be announced in June and the writers will receive feedback and be given two weeks to rewrite their script. Four scripts will then receive a live rehearsed reading at a showcase in June/July 2023 where industry professionals will decide the winner. Entry: £15 per script. Closing date: 30 April. Details: https://www.comedy.co.uk/sitcom_mission/info.

black cats, Write a good book.

STAY CLOSE TO HOME and SUPPORT THE NHS.

In these difficult times our four-legged friends are a great comfort. I don’t have any pictures of kittens to make you smile, but here is Gizzie, one of my prime beta-readers, admiring her garden. My very own lucky black cat.

Stay close to home. Read a good book. Better still, write a good book that others will one day enjoy…

And if you like to share pictures of your furry friends with us, please feel free. They will make us smile.

With Hallowe’en imminent, here is a spooky/lucky black cat for you. The chair on which Gizzy is conducting her radiator worship was purchased from an antique shop in Edenbridge, then humped laboriously back to the car park at the far end of the High Street. My plan was to recline in it for late afternoon reading of Jane Austen. Fat chance…
